Although rumors have been circling for a while, Disney has today confirmed that there will be an expansion to the Soarin' attraction in Epcot. As rumored, a third theater will be built behind the existing facility, but the screens and projection systems in the current two theaters will also be upgraded to bring "a visually enhanced experience". Although unannounced, a new film is also expected to be released at the same time as these upgrades and expansions go live. The expanded attraction is expected to open in late 2016.
The "Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid" attraction at Magic Kingdom has recently undergone a 4 week refurbishment and upgrade. When the ride first opened in October 2012, and ever since, there has been complaints and criticism about the attraction, as high levels of bright lighting were used throughout - which therefore made the ceiling visible, and also utility fixtures situated above the ride track. The new lighting scheme throughout the attraction uses regular lighting and black lighting - and this certainly improves the feel of the ride. There have also been some other enhancements throughout the attraction - with much of the work being focused around the "under the sea" and "kiss the girl" scenes. Currently at Animal Kingdom park only, if a guest fails the bio-metric scan at the entrance to the park multiple times, they are sent over to guest relations, where they will be asked some basic questions - such as length of ticket, full name etc. Once these questions have been asked, a CM will take a picture and link it to their ticket. This means that if the bio-metric scan fails at another park, or on another day, a photo will be attached to the guests ticket. If this test proves successful, then the system is expected to be rolled out to the other parks in early March 2015.
