Magic Kingdom
Opening on 1st October 1971, the Magic Kingdom was the first Walt Disney World theme park that opened, following Walt Disney's creation of Disneyland in California. The Magic Kingdom today still remains the most visited theme park in the world - with a staggering 18.58 million people visiting in 2013 alone! Walt Disney never got to see his 'Florida Project' develop, as he died in 1967, but he was majorly involved in the planning of the resort. The Magic Kingdom is built in lands and is centered around the parks icon - Cinderella Castle. The whole park is built at a 33m elevation, due to Florida's high water table. The park opened with 23 attractions, many of which were replicas of Disneyland attractions. The Magic Kingdom is open 365 days of the year and has only ever closed temporarily because of 5 hurricanes and the 9/11 terrorist attacks...
